Some of the earliest proof of yoga was found on artifacts dating back to 3000 B.C. A team of archeologists under Sir Mortimer Wheeler found several artifacts depicting advanced yoga poses in the River Indus region. Another artifact found in this area was discovered by Sir John Marshall. The Pashupati is thought be the Hindu god Shiva seated in the yogic "Lotus" position.



Most mats are made out of a material called PVC. This is great because it sticks to the floor and doesn't slide. But, when you get perspiration on it, it becomes very slippery. If you have a PVC mat, make sure you have a yoga towel to wipe perspiration regularly. A more uncommonly used material, is bamboo. It's not as conventional, but you may want to consider for doing hot yoga.

I had never heard of this type of yoga before, so did a bit of a search and found that there was a studio nearby. Bikram Yoga is practised in a room heated to approximately 38 degrees C, goes for 90 minutes, with 26 poses which are practised in a certain sequence. Each pose is held for 20-30 seconds, is done twice and prepares your body for the next. During the class you will work every muscle pilates memphis and every system of your body. I scoffed at her when she asked if I wanted her to bring it for me. I think my response was something like "I don't need your fancy mat". But being the girl she is, she brought it for me anyway. And that was when Yoga became a whole new ball game for me.
